The Things We Do For Charity

For most New Yorkers, a night of charity entails doling out a small fortune to sit at a large round table with stiff Uptown Wasps. Not last night. At the Rose Charities Be Bare event at Milk Studios, in the Meatpacking District, models auctioned clothes rights off their backs.
Women worked the runway, an auctioneer shouted out prices, and upscale hipsters sporting manicured three-day stubble raised their paddles in delight. When a designer garment was sold—the likes of Vivienne
Westwood, Zac Posen Alexander Wang, Marchesa, and Sue Stemp—the model would tear it off and return down the catwalk, stripping down to nothing but Ki Ki De Montparnasse lingerie. The bankers in the crowd, relieved that the only thing dropping was designer dresses and not the Dow, looked on gleefully, but it was clear that some people in the audience were shocked that a benign benefit could so closely resemble a night at Scores.
The event raised money for impoverished populations. “The beauty of [Rose Charities] is that it’s small and run by volunteers. We support projects in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Nepal, Madagascar, and Kenya,” the Canadian director of Rose Charities, Josephine DeFreitas said. “It’s very much people helping people without the big infrastructure. We support local people who do their own charity, and they achieve way more than we possibly could.” When I asked DeFreitas about the organization's recent benefit in Nashville, she joked, “The Bible belt had a really hard time.”
The event space was festooned with Hunter Barnes’s photographs—black and white images of the Ni Mii Puu Tribe, which hadn’t been photographed in a century. As I was leaving, I asked Barnes about his next project. “It’s top secret. I always keep it top secret. It’ll blow your fucking mind.”
On that note, I headed out the door with a stream of Meatpacking District Partygoers. Some looked like they had just auctioned off a few clothing items themselves.

LIMITED EDITION

The craftsmen at Moncler have heard it all before: In polite society, the only adults permitted to wear tumescent royal-blue ski jackets are either teaching grommets to shred the bunny slopes or waving in JetBlue planes on the JFK tarmac. But thanks to its Austin coat — designed in collaboration with Men's Vogue, with only 100 to be made — even the most monochromatic corporate type is likely to be bullish on the parka. Moncler, which will open its first U.S. boutique in Aspen at the end of November, based the Austin design on the jacket it provided to trainers of the 1968 French Olympic ski team in Grenoble (think Jean-Claude Killy) but updated it with a slimmer fit for those who spend their days closer to sea level. The real distinction, though, is the down — culled from the geese raised to produce foie gras. In addition to rich liver, the feeding process yields feathers that are undersized and underweight, which means a jacket that's 20 percent lighter while providing the same level of insulation. So as America's big cities mull over embargoing the contentious Gallic delicacy, animal activists should take note: At least this superlative plumage is not going to waste.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. AS SHERLOCK HOLMES

Production of the highly anticipated Sherlock Holmes movie has begun and we has the first photos from the set!
Guy Ritchie’s feature film starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams is currently shooting in Central London.
RDJ is said to be drawing on his experiences filming Chaplin, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, to create a believably British Sherlock Holmes.
Something tells us Oscar gold may soon be around the corner….

4 Years Anniversary

Four years ago, the late legendary photographer Richard Avedon took the job of Harry Winston's Campaign and picked several famed person to model for it.The celebrity studded black and white print ads for Harry Winston jeweler were the last advertising campaign photographed by the famed Richard Avendon who died on October 1st.2004,and pretty much the ever first time that Winston took the portrait work seriously.
This is the classique for the united of fashion and jewelry. They went for the Winston look, which is glamorous, intelligent, exclusive, sexy and fun. The people are not just beautiful, but they convey a certain confidence in their own skin. Mena Suvari's is our favs.
Now four years passed. Richard Avedon was still the most respected photographer of the world, and this still worth our while to watch.

Say This One

I first noticed this boy was in the fw07 season, his show card popped up and looked like a male version of lolita, which is a good sign for one's male modeling career. But he didnt got that much to show, the first round pretty much missed him and not until the Lavin hit the road people starts to pay attention. Then one day (thats how reality fairy tale usually clicks), he was in town, and signed for RED models, the engine set up pretty fast ever since then. And its universally acknowledged that being taken photos by Hedi Slimane is almost equals to being on top of all those fashion babies.

Why not? He has it all. The quality to be a model, the mood, the vibe, the face, the edginess, and we are pretty sure the body guna speaks for itself pretty darn soon. This is a face of Jil Sander/ Kenzo/ Y3/ Lavin you are looking at. Isnt he just reminds you Shaun alit bit? Yeah, the golden circle has to start tracing all over again, and we hope this time, RED still got it.
The name will westall, and wait until the MDC talks.

On the left Will in FHM collection. On the top of the post Will by Hedi Slimane.

EDITOR IN CHIEF MOMENT

We Still Love You.

“I sit there and I’ll look back and I’m like: I’m a smart person. What the hell was I thinking? I’ve been through a lot in the past two or three years, and there’s a lot that people don’t know. Sometimes I think I get kind of lonely because you don’t open the gate up that much, you know what I mean? You’re guarded. You have to be that way, so I’m kind of stuck in this place and it’s like: How do you deal? And you just cope, and that’s what I do. I just cope with it, every day.”
– Britney Spears opens up in an upcoming 90-minute documentary-style film, tentatively titled For the Record, about her headline-making erratic behaviour and the subsequent loneliness she recently faced.
Check out the trailer for Britney’s documentary about her return to the spotlight.
Briney Spears: For the Record was executive-produced by manager Larry Rudolph. It features behind-the-scenes footage of the singer and her talking about her life over the past two years.
The special is set to air on November 30 at 10 p.m. on MTV, two days before Circus is released on December 2 (the singer’s 27th birthday).

Michael Phelps Wants to Go to Fashion Week

When we heard Michael Phelps was headlining Bowlmor Lanes bowling alley’s 70th anniversary last night, we were there faster than you could say "world record." We just wanted to maybe touch his body a bit as we took our new Facebook picture with him. Was that so much to ask? Apparently it was, since every other woman in this city and quite a few gay men wanted to touch Michael’s body too. As cameras started flashing on the red carpet, a crush of girls thrust toward the action. “Oh my God — is that Michael Phelps?!” one trilled. "Get on your knees, bitch!" her friend replied.

We pushed through a gaggle of reporters from teen magazines and managed to snag an interview (regrettably hands-free). Michael explained his new goatee was a product of laziness. “I cleaned it up a little bit. But I just didn’t feel like [shaving] all of it,” he said. With security guards literally holding back a throng of ladies behind us, we asked if any overzealous fans had ever, say, thrown a bra in his face. “I had the funniest time at the welcome-home parade. There was this girl who had a sign up that said, 'I’m legal in four years.' I thought that was pretty original.” Clearly he didn't hear the "on your knees" girl. But sadly for her, Michael added he’s not dating anyone right now and won’t until the time is right. “You guys know everything else so I got to keep something to myself,” he said.

On to more fashionable topics, we asked if Phelps got invited to Fashion Week. “I have no idea if I did or not. I’m not sure where I was at that point, but I was traveling and I was super busy.” But if the designers in Paris had invited him to the shows, he so would have gone! “I’ll go anywhere. I’ll go enjoy myself. Come on — it’s fun going to those things,” he said. Michael’s favorite designers include Lacoste (whose hat he wore), Diesel, and Giorgio Armani. He hasn’t met Mr. Armani “yet,” he says, but the man did send him a shirt to wear for last night’s festivities. Hint hint, nudge nudge, Giorgio. David Beckham can’t hold down those Armani billboards forever! No time like the present to brew up a new campaign.

Grapes: Now he finally puts it all. I knew it. I mean one as a decent clear minded human being wouldnt suppose to take" The american hero has to be with a Little Mermaid" thing all that serious. Are you ? Are you not? Com'on we all have a job to be at.

Mat:Well, since hes riding high on the last of his 15 minutes for practically no physic or Technic reasons, there must be something to get people keep talking, say it to Amy, I mean as a fashionista she went all the way down to that hall, could you imagine? Amy! The blessed fashion editor and she was like: would you be at any fashion shows at all Mr Phelps?...... and she got this news to tag.Dear God....

Grapes: Why dose everyone keeps saying that 15 mins thing, I thought Andy .W said that for all of us-the common people. Phelps is not a common subject, hes a freak, head to toe,he got an ankle can goes around pretty much any directions, now thats A Dear God. As our Amy, well the gril got all crazed by anything blowing fashion then the girl can get off any human that attracts flashbulbs and catscreams. Backstabbing-she aint got that much to it.

Mat: What's it like? having sex with a Superhero.

Grapes: I m guna go top of the roof and ask someone that looks like a batman sidekick lol

Mat: YAWN lol

Grapes: Take it ! There is no superhero. There is no super beautiful, there is even no kindess people! Alive,Dead. combined! So Basically your question is more like a 'what's it like to have sex with hedi klum or gisele bunchen',which the answer you can find right out through any fab money high bastard's mouth in the next yacht party everywhere near the luxury beach town.

Mat:The world is a big dummy washbath, remember the guy in paris, that guy's picture in paris?

Grapes: Air Qoute the sexiest man alive for mat? Yeah, blurring. What? Had sex with him?

Mat: Nah~ I met him in Dubai, during our board meeting.

Grapes: No way , the beautiful bird also can earn?

Mat: Yeah.... and..I hate him.

Grapes: Ha ha ha ha ha hahaha~ what? he cut your 10 percent off?

Mat: No, not 10 percent....15 percent.I almost got kicked out of the boarder of Dubai becos He thinks that Trading with D** is a really bad behavior.

Grapes: Everyone is doing it.... haha betcha now feels like everyone is doing you.

Mat: See, that's it. In Jena's camera He is the God. In reality he is the God Damn it.

Grapes: Jena was graduated from Parson's and she was the assistant of a who's who. She can make a pig looks like the next appear on the national ballet ball.

Mat: So can all the other parson's graduating-super assistants, to make Phelps looks like a God.

Grapes: The god may be on the next Armani.

Mat: Cant Wait!

Grapes: BTW. I still think you are one of the most beautiful.

Mat: You too.

Valentino Appoints New Designers, Doesn’t Tell Facchinetti

After the spring 2009 Valentino show in Paris on Friday, company CEO Stefano Sassi told reporters it was designer Alessandra Facchinetti's last collection for the house. Over the weekend the company confirmed Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who have designed accessories for Valentino for ages, will take over as creative directors. However, Facchinetti wrote in a public e-mail the media heard of her dismissal before she did:

"It was with deep regret that I learnt from the press that I would no longer be working with Valentino…

"This news came as a great surprise since the company's top management has not yet seen fit to inform me. I would like to thank Valentino s.p.a. for showing their appreciation of my 'creative contribution and my sophisticated talent' although I deeply regret the fact that this talent and contribution do not seem to have been adequately acknowledged."

So what went wrong? To start, neither Valentino nor his partner, honorary president Giancarlo Giammetti, cared for her. Vava himself expressed this to reporters back in January, but echoes the sentiment in today's British Vogue: "[Chiuri and Piccioli] always demonstrated an enormous respect and love for my work. There is an existing archive with thousands of dresses where they can draw and take inspiration from to create a Valentino product that is relevant today. It is a shame that their predecessor didn't feel this need." Giammetti said, "To pretend to transform and revolutionise the Valentino style is a utopia which is a loss from the start … Pier Paolo and Maria Grazia are company oriented people and it is right to give them a chance to bring forward a style, which alongside Valentino, they have developed."

We hope Alessandra got a good severance package when the door slammed her ass on the way out.

SEASON'S MUST BUY

Oh-so-thoughtful! lol They figured it all out; That is the beauty of modern fashion craps.

Breaking: Alessandra Facchinetti OUT at Valentino

And the rumors were true. WWD just reported that Alessandra Facchinetti is finished at Valentino. Sources tell WWD that longtime Valentino accessories designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli will replace her as head of design. Her spring 2009 show for the house just walked in Paris, backstage at which Valentino CEO Stefano Sassi said, "We will make the situation clear very shortly."

Before Valentino, Facchinetti helmed design at Gucci, where she reportedly disagreed with management over aesthetics and production costs. Speculation about Facchinetti's successor has focused on Giambattista Valli, who presented a much-lauded collection yesterday. Was it all for naught? Valentino's new appointments are reportedly subject to board approval so stand by.

NATALIE PUTS HER $6.55 MILLION PAD ON MARKET

Natalie Portman recently unloaded her shaggy-haired rocker beau.

Now the big screen beauty is ditching her expensive West Village condo, which she’s owned since 2005.

The “Star Wars” minx has just gone to contract to sell her apartment in Richard Meier’s transparent tower at 165 Charles St. The condo last had an asking price of $6.55 million.

Included in the convertible three-bedroom, three-bath, fifth-floor apartment are views in three directions, a 32-foot balcony and a spacious great room. Building amenities include a 24-hour concierge, a fitness center, an infinity-edge lap pool and a screening room.

Portman, who recently ended her relationship with folk singer Devendra Banhart, bought the glassy 2,500-square-foot, river-fronting unit in 2005 for $5.7 million. She first listed the unit in June for $6.7 million.

Interested?

According to the listing mortgage calculator, a 30-year mortgage at 6.5 % interest with 15% down ($982 500) would leave the buying paying $39 388 a month in mortgage and fees.

Carine Roitfeld Wears Clothes Before They Hit the Runway

• French actor Andy Gillet is the face of Kenzo's Power fragrance for men. In the ad he picks a flower over a naked lady. It's flower power! [Now Smell This]

• The Times asks women to translate face-cream ads. In trying to describe the "neuro-cosmetic technology" in Clarins's Younger Longer Balm, a law student thought it had to do with the brain, as if putting it on makes you smarter. Oy. [NYT]

• Last month, the Times ran a rather flattering profile of Russian Vogue editor Aliona Doletskaya, who’s successfully brought a shot of glamour to Putin’s people. The press got itself in a tizzy over Dolteskaya’s rising star, and last week the Post reported that an announcer at a Russian GQ event flat-out referred to Doletskaya as “the next editor of American Vogue.” Well, that’s going to cause a bit of a freak-out! But we don’t believe a word of it, and here’s why: For the last decade we've heard rumors of Anna Wintour's imminent demise, and yet, the ice queen lives to rule another season. But names will always be bandied about; herewith, a rundown of all the other recent would-be usurpers to her throne.

THE BEST SHERLOCK EVER

FYB faves Robert Downey Jr. and Rachel McAdams are in London today for a press conference about Sherlock Holmes, which is about to begin filming.

Said RDJ: “In case you aren’t aware I had a hell of a summer, and it’s made me much more viable to play a lead role than I might have (been) in the past.”

When asked what he could bring to a character portrayed countless times on film and television, he joked: “Clearly I’m going to do it better than it’s ever been done.”

Meanwhile, director Guy Ritchie said the flick will be his biggest movie “by a long shot” in terms of budget. No numbers were given but producer Joel Silver did mention that the budget had not been affected by the current financial crisis.

Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Ford Do an Interview Together on Video!

Tom Ford sat down with Time to explain why his menswear line is so great. And he brought along one of his customers to back him up: Karl Lagerfeld. "It's made differently and ready-to-wear," Karl says. "This quality didn't [used to] exist. You had to fit 40 times before you had a suit. Something I hate is to be touched by strangers." But Karl loves how the arm holes in Tom's suits are cut close to the body so when you raise an arm, the arm "follows your will, but not the jacket." He adds jackets that do that are "for the garbage." Tom says he started his own line with menswear because he couldn't find anything to wear. "Tom is not a drag queen — he started with men's clothes because he wanted clothes for him," Karl emphasizes. And of course, Tom insists on flattering Karl, too. Watch the love on video here

Rafael Nadal Inks Lanvin Campaign Deal; Sofia Coppola to Design for Louis Vuitton

Tennis beefcake Rafael Nadal is the new face of Lanvin's L’Homme Sport fragrance line. We hope he takes a cue from David Beckham and appears greased up and shirtless in the campaign. That will sell cologne. [WWD]

Marc Jacobs has hinted designer collaborations at Louis Vuitton might be getting out of hand. But that doesn't mean they're going to stop: WWD just reported Sofia Coppola is the next guest designer on tap. Coppola will design a line of handbags and shoes for the house, which most recently collaborated with Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo on monogram leather goods. But unlike Kawakubo's limited-edition bags, which are only available in Japan, Coppola's designs will be sold worldwide. Don't get us wrong — we heart Sofia Coppola as much as Marc Jacobs, but we have to wonder if her Vuitton goods will have the same cache as Richard Prince's, Takashi Murakami's, or Kawakubo's. Then again, she interned with Karl Lagerfeld when she was in high school and launched the Milkfed clothing line in Japan in 1998 so it's not like she hasn't done this kind of thing before.

Balenciaga Shows Bags; Lily Cole’s French ‘Playboy’ Cover Revealed

• The French Playboy with Lily Cole on the cover is out, as you see at right. The issue includes a fourteen-page sixties-themed "Sweet Lily" editorial by Xevi Muntane and interviews by Lily's friends including Jean Paul Gaultier and Terry Gilliam. [Fashionologie]
